Peek Inside a Book - Three Little Books

When I was deciding to come back to the blog I was looking through all the blogging memes that the blogs I read follow. I had done Book Beginnings and The Friday 56 a handful of times, but over at  Mixed Book Bag , JC merged them together and I really like that idea.  So borrowing from her I'm going to start linking up to both Book Beginnings on Friday from  Rose City Reader  and The Friday 56 with  Freda's Voice . _____________________________________________________ I went to a neighboring town this past weekend and ended up going into the library. I have a library card there too and decided to see if anything caught my eye. I ended up pulling three books off the shelves, small books that can easily be read in one sitting. It was a rainy day and I thought about sitting in a coffee shop or curled up at home and enjoying a quick story with a hot drink. Here are the three books I picked up:   Address Unknown  by Katherine Kressmann Taylor  (about 50 pages) It Beg

Three Word Wednesday #319

Decaying,   Ember,   Fragrant On the 14th I saw a tweet that said to type "Roses are red" and then keep hitting the middle suggestion word until you have a poem. My friends and I all made some pretty funny yet on point poems.  I liked the idea and thought I would try it out for this week's prompt. I typed one of the prompt words and then hit the middle button 20 times. I made myself use all but 2 of the words and I could use a slight variation of the word.  This is what I came up with. Decaying water from a small house to a branch is the one of space for a few minutes to get the For a few minutes A branch is the one To get to the water From a small decaying house Ember and I couldn’t be the one who was going on a wedding day when I had the aunt wanted her Embers on a wedding day When her aunt couldn’t be the one wanted And I who was going had Fragrant and she is the first to be the niece and the niece to be a niece and aunt of co

Peek Inside - March Book 1 (2 and 3)

This week the book  March: Book 1  by John Lewis  caught my eye. It Begins:   "Can you swim?" "No." "Well, neither can I -- but we might have to." On Page 56: Dr. King's message hit me like a bolt of lighting. He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social gospel -- and I felt like he was preaching directly to me. I went to the school library on Monday to find out everything I could about this man. Verdict: Must read!  No really stop what you're

Five Minute Friday - Safe

Safe I am safe?  I always thought I lived a relatively safe life but recent political aspects have me rethinking those ideas of safety I always believed surrounded me. After the elections I felt there was a lot to unpack on many different levels. I kept circling around the idea of where I fit in with everything. I questioned my place due to my mixed ethnicity and how I was raised. I’m half Hispanic but do I really feel okay with saying I’m Hispanic when I grew up with more white privilege than others?  Or since I have known small injustices because of my ethnicity and my last name can I stand with those who have faced more injustices.  The further we get into this presidential reign the more I still question these same questions but I also feel more comfortable with my role in all of this protesting society. I don’t feel safe, but not at the level of many in our country. I feel less safe than I did a year ago and that lack of feeling of safety is enough for me to realiz

Peek Inside - The Handmaid's Tale

When I was deciding to come back to the blog I was looking through all the blogging memes that the blogs I read follow. My little twist to this --> I work in a library IT department. We have two offices separated by a section of the fiction stacks.  Books are always catching my eye and I've gotten pretty good about ignoring them, other wise my TBR list would be HUGE.  But these weekly memes give them the chance to see if the book would be worth checking out. This week the book  The Handmaid's Tale  by Margaret   caught my eye. It Begins:   We slept in what had once been the gymnasium. On Page 56: Is that how we lived, then? But we lived as usual
