5K Your Way for Libraries - Morning in the Library

This week I'm doing a 5K Your Way for Libraries to help raise money for EveryLibrary - You can donate by going to my page here - Amelia's Team Page for Lit Chicks I'm doing my 5K by writing 5 thousand words.  I was going to do a 5k word short story, but it might end up being a series of flash fiction/short stories. Sunday, September 26  - Word Count: 807 Morning in the Library It started off like any other Monday morning. I unlocked the side door to our building, disengaged the alarm, and then locked the side door.  You would think patrons wouldn’t attempt to enter the library through a staff-only door before operating hours, but you’d be wrong. I dropped my stuff in my office before making my way to the break room to start the coffee.  It’s the unofficial rule of the branch, first, one to come in in the morning starts the pot and everyone needs to make it the same way, one scoop per 1 cup water.  Coffee started; I headed out into our small brick branch of a lar...

Blind Date with a Book - Year 4

I've changed up my display again this year.  It makes for a really cute design, but it was a pain to print on the paper bags. Click here for past year's displays.

Book Crafts in the Library

Last night I did an adult craft of origami flowers. I had fun and they seems to enjoy playing with glue (they kind of overdid the glue part of the craft). First I cut up an old book that was falling apart: Once I had the book pages cut it was just time to wait for the day of the program. Last night was craft night:  I was all set for my crafters! Here's how to make the Kusudama Flowers: For full written instructions you can visit   WikiHow - How to Make a Kusudama Flower

Blind Date with a Book - Year 3

Here's  my post from last year  with the displays from my first two years of Blind Date with a Book. Since I noticed a number of patrons checking their checkout slips for book titles and then returning the books unopened I changed things up this year to try to cut out that habit. I picked 10 books all about the same size, wrapped them and numbered them. When they get checked out it will be by number only until they get it home and unwrap the book. This year's books are: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Persuasion by Jane Austen A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare The Blind Side by Michael Lewis Blockade Billy by Stephen King One for the Money by Janet Evanovich The Glass Castle by Jaennette Walls Abraham Lincoln by James McPherson A Slice of Murder by Chris Cavender

Blind Date with a Book

Last year I put together a book display called Blind Date with a Book.  I found the idea through another librarian's post and thought it was great.  Last year I wrapped 19 books and 15 books were checked out.  We asked that people reviewed the book but unfortunately only two people returned reviews. Last year's books included: In the Hot Zone by Kevin Sites Night by Elie Wiesel Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon by Daivd Michaels Macbeth by Shakespear A Million Little Pieces by James Frey Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore Under the Dome by Stephen King Lawless by Nora Roberts The Sinatra Files by Tom Kuntz The Help by Kathryn Stockett The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl Ford County by John Grisham The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery The Postmistress by Sarah Blake A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar Hide & Seek by James Patterson A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolf Gorgeous East by Robert Girardi Most of these books w...
