A Semi-Geeky Girl Goes to PAX - East

I got home from PAX - East over a week ago and I'm just now ready to write my thoughts on the expo. I've been trying to figure out how to break it down and I've decided instead of a break down by day I'm going to break everything down based on categories. So we'll start off with pre-convention, followed by panels, expo hall, game play, and post-convention. Pre-Convention We arrived in Boston on Thursday and had some time to kill before the 7pm game time meet up in the lobby. There was no forgetting this meet up, Sam kept reminding us every 10 minutes or so. I had already checked it out and knew that the main building for the Boston Public Library was just down the road from the convention center and there were some other historical locations in the area I had wanted to see. Being a library lover I had wanted to take the tour of the library but never got around to it, so just seeing the outside would have to do for this trip. Our first stop was the Boston P...

Quick rundown of Day 3 at PAX

Started the day off with room service breakfast before heading over to the convention center.  There Sam and I dropped Sean off at some panel about game art/design or something.  Then we headed over to the Expo Hall but before we got in there we were sidetracked to where Felicia Day was seated signing DVDs of the guild.  So Sam and I each got a copy of season one signed.  Then as we entered the Expo Hall we received free Champions Online T-Shirts.  Then we headed over to the Fallout 3 tables to get our Vault Boy puppets and Penny Arcade designed posters.  Then we headed over to the Champions Online area so I could make and ID card...I became The Librarian. After that we checked out of the Expo Hall and headed across the street to see Wil Wheaton's Panel.  We got there in just enough time...that place filled up to standing room only. Wil read one of his stories "Blue Light Special" before doing a Q&A session.  It was great...really great.  After the panel we headed b...

Quick rundown of Day 2 at PAX

Yesterday (day 2) was a lot of sit around and wait.  The first sit and wait was in line for the Penny Arcade: Draw a Strip.  So we watched as Tycho and Gabe created Monday's strip and did a hilarious Q&A session.  We learned a new curse word too. After that we stayed and saw the Fallout 3 demo.  I've never played the Fallout games, but I really enjoyed watching the demo.  There were some pretty amazing things, the weapons were great and I loved the super glove thingy that took the guys head off.  We also got puppets. We left after that to go get food.  We ended up down the road at this little place called Cyber Dog.  It's 100% vegetarian. The dogs were okay, but not really worth the wait, also considering they forgot one of our dogs.  Going to get food prevented us from getting in line early enough to see the D&D DM panel, but we were in line for the Beyond D&D panel.  While in line Sam met Jeffrey who was dressed like a pirate...and then we became four. Aft...

Quick rundown of Day 1 at PAX

First thing we did was meet up with the Pre-Pax Breakfast group...you guys were great to meet and talk to. After eating we headed to the convention center where we stood/sat in line...forever.  I got some photos of the line and of the beach ball being hit around.  Even a little video.  Another member of my group got pics of Man Peach and some other interesting things we encountered on line. Once we got in our first order of business was to sign our friend up for the Smash Brothers Tournament and then we headed to the EXPO Hall.  I'll be the first to admit that I was lost there, I'm not a big gamer and I can honestly say that I hadn't heard of more than half of those games.  But I did enjoy myself.  I watched a lot of games being played, asked a few questions about ones I was interested in and even played one of the PAX 10 games. My friend and I co-oped on the Samurai Sushi game.  I played mouse and she played controller and I really think it's better as a mouse game....
