Book Trailer Thursday (Kinda): Comic Genius by Matt Hoyle

Matt Hoyle's new book, Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People , is a collection of portraits of some of the funniest people around.  Included in this collection are some of my favorites like Mel Brooks, Billy Crystal, Carol Burnett, Jon Stewart, Joan Rivers, and the two in the video below. Steve Martin and Kermit the Frog in "Dueling Banjos" from Steve Martin

Book Trailer Thursday - 17 Day Plan to Stop Aging

Not the typical book I post book trailers for, but I found myself drawn into the videos for this one. Let me start at the beginning...I had nothing else to post so I went on the hunt for a book trailer. I ended up on YouTube and on the page for Simon & Schuster.  As I clicked and watching book trailers, and authors talking, I saw a video that said "5 Ways to Slow Aging in Your 50s" but paid it no attention.  Then after a few more videos I saw "5 Way to Slow Again in Your 20s" and watched the video. #1 - Don't do it nearly enough - trying to really get into a better routine #2 - Don't do it nearly enough - trying. #3 - Nope, but I'm going to look into it, helps with anxiety. #4 - This one I have done! Whoo-hoo (just got to remember to floss everyday). #5 - Nope - I exercise more than I wear sunscreen. I failed the no aging in my 20s. But no fear, there was a video on the side panel that read "5 Ways to Slow your Again in your 30s...

Book Trailer Thursday - This is How You Die

Published on  Jul 16, 2013 The machines started popping up around the world. The offer was tempting: with a simple blood test, anyone could know how they would die. But the machines didn't give dates or specific circumstances-just a single word or phrase. DROWNED, CANCER, OLD AGE, CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN. And though the predictions were always accurate, they were also often frustratingly vague. OLD AGE, it turned out, could mean either dying of natural causes, or being shot by an elderly, bedridden man in a botched home invasion. The machines held onto that old-world sense of irony in death: you can know how it's going to happen, but you'll still be surprised when it does.  This addictive anthology--sinister, witty, existential, and fascinating--collects the best of the thousands of story submissions the editors received in the wake of the success of the first volume, and exceeds the first in every way.  For more visit,  http://www.hachettebookgroup.co...

Book Trailer Thursday - Truth or Dare by Jacqueline Green

ABOUT THE BOOK: When a simple round of truth or dare spins out of control, three girls find it's no longer a party game -- it's do or die. It all started on a whim: The game was a way for Tenley Reed to reclaim her popularity, a chance for perfect Caitlin "Angel" Thomas to prove she's more than her Harvard application. Loner Sydney Morgan wasn't even there; she was hiding behind her camera, as usual. But when all three start receiving mysterious dares long after the party has ended, they're forced to play along -- or risk exposing their darkest secrets. How far will Tenley, Caitlin, and Sydney go to keep the truth from surfacing? And who's behind this twisted game? Set against the backdrop of Echo Bay, an isolated beach town haunted by misfortune, Truth or Dare is a highly charged debut that will keep readers in suspense from beginning to end. This sounds interesting.  I'm adding it to my TBR list.  I will say I really liked the typewrit...

This is one of our pick for our May book club.  This was just one of those books I happened to see while browsing the shelves and I'm hoping it turns out to be a good pick.

Book Trailer Thursday - DATA, A Love Story

How did I miss this one?! I put it on hold before the book trailer was even done. I can't wait to read it! Data, A Love Story by Amy Webb Published on  Jan 4, 2013 This is the video trailer for the book by Amy Webb. DATA, A LOVE STORY is a lively, thought-provoking memoir about how one woman "gamed" online dating sites like JDate, OKCupid, and eHarmony -- and met her eventual husband.

Book Trailer Thursday - The Love Song of Johnny Valentine

This book is on my To Be Read list, it just sounds like a really interesting story.  If it wasn't already on my list I think this trailer would have made me add the book.  This is a cute video that made me chuckle. The Love Song of Johnny Valentine by Teddy Wayne Published on  Oct 17, 2012 Teddy Wayne's The Love Song of Jonny Valentine explores the underbelly of fame in twenty-first century America's celebrity culture, told through the eyes of an unforgettable child. Book Trailer Thursday - T-Rex Trying

I've been slack on catching up with all the info in my Google Reader, some of my newsletters and of course in my posting. I finally have caught up and there were three book trailers shared in my Shelf-Awareness newsletters I just had to share. So the next few weeks I'll at least have one post to share on Thursdays! This first one caught my eye because I associate T-Rex with my friend Amanda and her husband. I tend to share anything T-Rex/dinosaur related with them.  This book looks so cute and it's based off a Tumblr blog so I'm going to have to follow that as well as get my hands on this book!   T-Rex Trying by Hugh Murphy Published on  Nov 8, 2012 Poor T-Rex. It's hard to be the Lizard King when you can't even change a light bulb. Drawn from Hugh Murphy's wildly popular Tumblr feed of the same name, T-Rex Trying depicts the stubby-armed tyrant in a range of hilarious—yet pathos-inducing—activities that we humans take for granted. Murphy's ...

Book Trailer Thursday...kinda

1. I'm a day late with this post 2. It's not a book but a movie trailer but it's based on a book...well a play. I need to see this movie.  If Joss let's me down I'm breaking up with him. Much Ado About Nothing - shot in 12 days by Joss Whedon at his home.

Book Trailer Thursday - The One and Only Ivan

This book just won the 2013 Newbery Medal Reading the description and then watching the book trailer has me already choked up. It seems like such a heart breaking story, but I'm so very curious about it now. When I was younger I used to seek out books that had the Newbery seal on them, those were the book I had wanted to read.  I'm debating this one...I'll probably risk breaking my heart.       Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he’s seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line. Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from her family, and sh...

Book Trailer Thursday - The Saint Who Would Be Santa Clause

The Saint Who Would Be Santa Claus  by Adam C. English I saw a link for the book trailer in The Shelf Awareness Pro newsletter for Tuesday, December 4th.  After watching the trailer and reading the description thought of  The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guinn. I enjoyed reading those and I would really like to know more about St. Nicholas.  I have the book on hold now just to wait to read it! The Saint Who Would Be Santa Claus: The True Life and Trials of Nicholas of Myra   With his rosy cheeks and matching red suit—and ever-present elf and reindeer companions—Santa Claus may be the most identifiable of fantastical characters. But what do we really know of jolly old Saint Nicholas, "patron saint" of Christmastime? Ask about the human behind the suit, and the tale we know so well quickly fades into myth and folklore.   In The Saint Who Would Be Santa Claus, religious historian Adam English tells the true and compell...

Book Trailer Thursday - Madly in Love with ME

Madly in Love with ME - Self Love Guidebook Trailer   Self love author Christine Arylo releases the official self love guidebook - practical, tangible and fun ways to truly love yourself, for real and for keeps. I don't know if I'll really get this book, but it's one that will be added to my list of books that I'll consider.  I'm picky about which self help books I'll pick up, the writing style of the author has to sound like me.  I want to read the book and feel as if I'm telling myself these things, as if I'm pushing myself to make the changes and helping myself.
