It's Monday! What are you reading? - The Portland Heat Novellas

I've been in a kind of reading slump lately. I'll get a few books out from the library, read a few chapters and then give up on the book. I think a lot of them sounded interesting but just didn't grab my attention.

So last night I'm browsing my library's ebook collection when I see this pop up as new books.

Bundled Up (Portland Heat, #1-3)Bundled Up by Annabeth Albert
All three of The Portland Heat Novellas together for the first time!

Served Hot
In Portland, Oregon, the only thing hotter than the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are the hard-working men who serve it upā€”hot, fresh, and ready to goā€”with no reservationsā€¦
Robby is a self-employed barista with a busy coffee cart, a warm smile, and a major crush on one of his customers. David is a handsome finance director who works nearby, eats lunch by himself, and expects nothing but ā€œthe usualā€ā€”small vanilla latteā€”from the cute guy in the cart. But when David shows up for his first Portland Pride festival, Robby works up the nerve to take their slow-brewing relationship to the next level. David, however, is newly out and single, still grieving the loss of his longtime lover, and unsure if heā€™s ready to date again. Yet with every fresh latte, sweet exchangeā€”and near hook-upā€”David and Robby go from simmering to steaming to piping hot. The question is: Will someone get burned?

Baked Fresh
From its famous coffee to the mouthwatering fare at its cafĆ©s, restaurants, and bakeries, Portland, Oregon, has a lot to whet the appetite, including the hard-working men who serve it all upā€”hot, fresh, and ready to goā€”with no reservationsā€¦
Vic Degrassi is a baker on the rise, and itā€™s all thanks to his rare ability to makeā€”and keepā€”his New Yearā€™s resolutions. Whether itā€™s losing weight, giving up smoking, or graduating from culinary school, Vic goes after what he wantsā€”and gets it. This year? He wants Robin Dawson, the sweet-hearted hottie who volunteers with him at the local homeless shelter. When he learns that Robin is suddenly single after being unceremoniously dumped, Vic is more than happy to offer a shoulder to cry onā€”or at least a fresh-baked pastry to bite into. But itā€™s been a long time since Vicā€™s gone on a date, and heā€™s nervous about risking his friendship with Robin. So when their flirtation turns into a steamy night together, Vic and Robin have to figure out if theyā€™re friends with benefits or lovers in the making, and if Robin is ready for something more than just a rebound. Thereā€™s only one way to find out: turn up the heatā€¦

Delivered Fast
Portland, Oregon, aka Hotlandia, where the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are ready to serve everything piping hot, fresh, and ready to goā€”like the hard-working, hard-bodied men behind the countersā€”with no reservationsā€¦Sure, Chris Oā€™Neal has problems. His restaurant is still co-owned by his ex. His flannel-and-tattoos style is making him accidentally trendy. He canā€™t remember the last time he went out and had fun. But heā€™s not lonely, heā€™s driven. And the hot bakery delivery boy is not his problem, no matter how sweet his buns.
Chris is old enough to know Lance Degrassiā€™s sculpted good looks and clever double entendres spell nothing but trouble. Lance is still in collegeā€”he should be hitting the clubs and the books, chasing guys his own age, not pursuing some gruff motorcycle-riding workaholic. Especially when heā€™ll be leaving for grad school in a few months. But Lance keeps hanging around, lending a hand, charming Chris to distraction. Maybe some steaming hot no-strings indulgence wonā€™t hurt.

I've finished Served Hot and really enjoyed it. It's a short, sweet and steamy read. Can't wait to read the other two

Blind Date with a Book

Last year I put together a book display called Blind Date with a Book.  I found the idea through another librarian's post and thought it was great.  Last year I wrapped 19 books and 15 books were checked out.  We asked that people reviewed the book but unfortunately only two people returned reviews. Last year's books included: In the Hot Zone by Kevin Sites Night by Elie Wiesel Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon by Daivd Michaels Macbeth by Shakespear A Million Little Pieces by James Frey Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore Under the Dome by Stephen King Lawless by Nora Roberts The Sinatra Files by Tom Kuntz The Help by Kathryn Stockett The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl Ford County by John Grisham The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery The Postmistress by Sarah Blake A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar Hide & Seek by James Patterson A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolf Gorgeous East by Robert Girardi Most of these books w...

Review - How to Deliever a TED Talk by Jeremy Donovan

How to Deliver a TED Talk by Jeremy Donovan My rating: 4 of 5 stars Description "How To Deliver A TED Talk" is a complete public speaking guide for creating presentations that inspire others through your story. Based on intensive study of the most popular TEDTalks, this step-by-step playbook shows you how to select your topic, craft your narrative, master your delivery, and refine your design. Review I will probably never give a TEDTalk but that doesn't mean that I won't have to give presentations in my profession.  Just because I'm not delivering one of these inspirational talks doesn't mean that my presentations can't be creative and unique. This book is a great public speaking handbook. There are chapters that won't be applicable to everyone. For example How to Craft Your Catchphrase or How to be Introduced.  The majority of these chapters can be used to create even the most basic presentation.  The book focuses on telling a story ins...

Nonfiction November: My Year in Nonfiction

Hosted by Sophisticated Dorkiness this week This week's prompt: Your Year in Nonfiction: Take a look back at your year of nonfiction and reflect on the following questions ā€“ What was your favorite nonfiction read of the year? What nonfiction book have you recommended the most? What is one topic or type of nonfiction you havenā€™t read enough of yet? What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November? What was your favorite nonfiction read of the year?  I don't know if I can pick one favorite, I looked at my list and there are at least 10 that I really enjoyed so far this year. If I had to pick my top three they would be: Caffeinated by Murray Carpenter My Beloved World by Sonya Sotomayor I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai All three of these books really caught my attention and really made me take a look at my life.  I saw how much of a caffeine addict I really am, how lucky I was to be born in the suburbs in New Jersey, and how with hard wo...
