Little Thoughts About Books and Stuff

When I was deciding to come back to the blog I was looking through all the blogging memes that the blogs I read follow. I had done Book Beginnings and The Friday 56 a handful of times, but over at  Mixed Book Bag , JC merged them together and I really like that idea.  So borrowing from her I'm going to start linking up to both Book Beginnings on Friday from  Rose City Reader  and The Friday 56 with  Freda's Voice . This week I'm reading: The Cottingly Secret   by Hazel Gaynor It Begins:   Cottingley, Yorkshire. August 1921. Fairies will not be rushed. I know this now; Know I must be patient. On Page 56: Elise laughed as I squealed at the icy cold. "You'll catch your death, Frances Griffiths, not to mention a slipper on your backside if your mother catches you! And mind you don't slip on those stones. The water's running fast. It'll knock your feet from under you easily enough." Verdict: I'm enjoying the book. I...

Book Blogger Hop When meeting with friends, do your discussions usually turn to books? Depends on the friend(s) I'm with, but I've talked about books with all of my friends at least once in the time span of our friendship. My best friend and I are constantly sharing books.  We both moved last year and in the process found books belonging to the other person. I currently have 1 book of hers on my nightstand and she has 2 of mine.

So my plan is each Monday to update anyone who reads this on what I'm currently reading and what I may have finished in the last week. Book Beginnings on Friday from  Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 with  Freda's Voice . This week I'm reading: The Great Alone   by Kristin Hannah It Begins:   That spring, rain fell in great sweeping gusts that rattled the rooftops. On Page 56: Salvation Army . So he had planned ahead, thought of her the other day when they were in Homer. It made the ugly clothes almost beautiful. Verdict: I've only read the 1st chapter as the time of this posting. Normally I hold off on reading really popular books because I don't want to be swayed by reviews. Like this book, all the great reviews make me think I'm going to read something amazing, I don't want to be let down if I don't enjoy it, that being said, 1 chapter in and I think I really am going to enjoy this book.

RoofBeamReader I ended up catching with my readings by listening to Numbers through a podcast.  It was boring and I'm pretty sure I fell asleep at one point. So now that we have the laws, we can get back to the story of the Israelites and their journey to the promised land.  Preparation for the Departure from Sinai - Chapters 1-10,10 The big part of the preparation is taking a census. Moses gets assistants from all the tribes to gather this information from their tribes. These censuses were really to find out how many men were of age/ability to serve in the military. This information was gathered from all the tribes except for the Levites.  They were omitted because God had decided this tribe would be in charge of the Dwelling.  Since they would be in charge of it, they would camp near it.  From here God then decreed where all the other tribes would encamp around the Dwelling. Since the Levites were a special tribe, there is more information about thei...

RoofBeamReader Really behind on my bible posts.  I got behind in the readings but I'm finally back on track with my reading so hopefully, I'll get back on track with posts. This post covers the whole of the book of Leviticus. This was a boring book to read, it's the laws of the priests. We've been looking at the Bible as a teaching device. In that thread, this section is primarily a list of laws, rules, and instructions for the priests to follow in order to provide guidance to the people. Rituals of Sacrifices - Chapters 1-7 In the Old Testament, God still required sacrifices, but they weren't just willy-nilly done, this section is the specific and very detailed rules of sacrifices and offerings. While a lot of the offerings are of the same components, different types of offerings must be prepared and presented differently. Ceremony of Ordination - Chapters 8-10 These are the rules for ordaining priests. Like with other rituals, there must be a sacrifice...
